This installation, originally designed for a Caritas mission in Burundi, had been diverted to Benin. This was due to the impossibility of guaranteeing minimum safety standards for the technicians as a result of serious unrest in the region. The photovoltaic system, provided by the humanitarian project, provided for the generation of electricity and strongly contributed to the improvement of the existing electrical system.
The plant now powers the lighting system of all buildings and guarantees the operation of the mill during the harvesting period.
This stand-alone system, so structured, is able to ensure at least 80% of the energy needs of the mission, keeping alive the agricultural and educational centre of Father Janvier.
This pilot project allows the schooling and employment of young people in rural areas with the trade of products at the agricultural centre.
